FAIRBANKS

Two dead in small-plane crash; victims' names not yet released

Two people are dead after a single-engine plane crashed 20 miles southwest of Fairbanks on Monday night, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane went down around 6 p.m., said Capt. Russ Edwards with the Rescue Coordination Center.

A witness told Alaska State Troopers the plane was flying above the Tanana River when the engine seemed to stall. The plane then nose-dived into the ground, trooper Sean Adkins said.

According to a database of public records, the plane is registered to a Sean Hill of North Pole. Officials could not say late Monday night whether he was one of the people on the plane.
